What Should I Wear to a Head Spa Appointment?
Wear a top with an open or stretchy neckline, skip heavy styling products, and leave necklaces and earrings off — your scalp, neck, and shoulders need to be fully reachable for the best head spa experience.
A head spa is one of the most relaxing rituals you can book — warm water, aromatic steam, gentle pressure-point work, and a deep cleanse that leaves your scalp refreshed. But if it is your first visit, one question comes up again and again: what should I wear? The short answer is simple: dress for comfort, and plan around your hair. Here is exactly how to get it right.
Start With the Neckline
Your neck and shoulders are part of the experience. During the ritual, your therapist works through your scalp, temples, neck, and shoulders to release built-up tension, so anything tight or high around the neck will get in the way.
The best choice: a top with a wide, scoop, or V-neckline, or a button-down shirt you can unbutton a couple of notches. Most head spa studios will drape a waterproof cape over you, so your clothes stay clean — but a stretchy, easy neckline makes the session smoother from the very first minute.
What to skip: turtlenecks, high-collar jackets, hoodies pulled up around your neck, and thick scarves. If you arrive in one, no stress — studios like ours provide fresh gowns you can change into.
Prep Your Hair, Not Your Makeup Routine
You do not need to arrive with freshly washed hair. In fact, most people book their head spa on a normal hair day — the ritual starts with a thorough cleanse, which is the whole point.
A few things that help your therapist do their best work:
- Go light on styling products. Heavy gels, waxes, or dry shampoo can take extra time to rinse out. A light leave-in is fine.
- Skip the tight updos. Buns, tight braids, and glued-in extensions make scalp access harder. A loose ponytail or wearing your hair down is ideal.
- Makeup is up to you. Your face will be cleansed during the facial portion of many rituals, so heavy foundation may not survive. Light makeup or bare skin both work — do what makes you comfortable.
Leave the Jewelry at Home
Necklaces, chokers, long earrings, and hair accessories with metal parts should come off before the session. The ritual involves warm water circulation and essential oils around your head and neck, and jewelry gets in the way — or gets wet. Most studios have a small tray or locker for your valuables, but the simplest move is to leave the extras at home.
What the Studio Provides
You do not need to bring much. At Wonderland Healing Spa, every guest gets:
- A fresh spa gown or cape so your clothes stay clean and dry
- Towels, disposable ear covers, and a headband to protect your face
- Aromatherapy oils chosen for your scalp and mood
- Professional blow-dry styling after the treatment — so you leave looking polished, not damp
The only thing we suggest bringing is yourself, relaxed and ready. Many guests also like to bring a hair tie for afterward and any personal hair products they prefer, though our finishing products are designed for all hair types.
A Note for First-Timers
If you are wondering whether the appointment is worth it, it absolutely is — just come as you are. There is no dress code, no special preparation, and no wrong choice beyond a turtleneck and a pound of hair gel. After your session, your scalp feels lighter, your hair smells wonderful, and your shoulders thank you. Many of our guests wish they had booked sooner.
